First We Met

We met at a despedida for Roshni which was being hosted by Chand at his house in Dasma. Jica, one of the few childhood friends of Roshni attending the party, was confused as to why there were so many strangers at the despedida. One of those strangers was Jerry, who had just moved back to Manila fresh from a stint in Shanghai. You will hear many stories about what exactly went down that night, but one thing is for sure: it was love at first sight.
First date

The first date is contested. Jerry says it was at Nihonbashitei; Jica says “we never really had a first date.” One of our earliest pictures together was at the Legazpi Sunday Market. It was around this time that we started dating.

We never really had an official date for when the relationship started, so we decided our own anniversary: August 8, which is an auspicious date. 10 years later, we are celebrating our anniversary by declaring our lifelong love for one another in front of our closest friends and family.

Jica proposed to Jerry on her birthday at Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan. Jerry was in a wheelchair due to a bout of gout. Jica pushed him around the lake so he could soak in the views. We rode a tandem bike and Jerry, despite the gout, took the front seat which bears the brunt of vehicle operations. Even in illness he takes care of Jica. We stopped to rest at a bridge along the bike trail called “永結橋” or “tied together forever bridge” (unbeknownst to us at the time). This is where Jica presented Jerry with a ring she had been holding on to for about 5 years to the date. Jerry laughed, whispered “shibal” (Korean for “shit”) and declared, “yes!”
